I got 9 of 17. I thought recréation was recess, WRONG. I thought la règle was ruler. WRONG. But A-I says, In French, “une règle” can mean “a rule” (a principle or guideline) or “a ruler” (a measuring instrument). I thought an étui held pencils. WRONG. I thought a classroom was une SALLE de classe, WRONG. A slate for writing was something used 2 hundred years before computers. I love doing crossword puzzles, but this one left me clueless. This puzzle would be great for a teacher, but a lot of us have never taught in a French classroom. We don’t teach kids to use protractors! We need a more generic puzzle.

Hello Barbara,
It was the first test, I glad you liked to play. I chose the theme of “back to school” and obviously the words chosen correspond to my references as a former schoolmate. I knew the slate and I’m not that old lol. On the other hand, I am surprised by the non-use of the protractor at school.
The results will be posted with the new wine-themed crossword. Don’t hesitate to suggest other theme ideas. The goal is to bring a little more vocabulary while playing, Merci !
